Tourism Alliance re-elects BVEP representative to its Board of Directors

At its Annual General Meeting held today (Monday, 23rd July 2018), Michael Hirst OBE, Chairman of the Business Visits and Events Partnership (BVEP), was reappointed for a three-year term to the board of the Tourism Alliance, the body that represents over fifty organisations covering the diverse sectors making up Britain’s visitor economy.

Hirst has been a Tourism Alliance board member for the past fifteen years, was Chairman of the Alliance in 2013 and has also served as Treasurer and on the Executive Committee.

The Alliance is presently dealing with issues arising from Britain’s exit from the European Union including skills, employee retention and recruitment, facilitation of travel, and other regulations including the package travel directive. It is also considering position papers on tourism taxes and registration of accommodation.

Hirst said: “The Alliance makes a unique contribution to the furtherance of the well-being and reputation of the Tourism Industry. At all times whilst the BVEP is part of the Alliance, the interests of the events sector can be included in representations the Alliance makes.

“The Tourism Alliance has also played a key role in developing the industry’s sector bid as part of the government’s industrial strategy. The role of events within that strategy is key to increasing productivity, seasonal spread and regional dispersal. Through board membership of the Tourism Alliance, I will be able to ensure the Alliance can fully co-ordinate the Events sector contribution to the Bid and make sure that the needs of the events sector are properly understood.”
